After a lengthy application process and review, the American Viola Society has been notified that the Primrose International Viola Competition has been approved for membership in the World Federation of International Music Competitions. As such, the PIVC will join the ranks of 119 of the world’s leading music competitions that belong to the WFIMC. Founded in 1957, the World Federation of International Music Competitions is dedicated to establishing a global network of internationally recognized organizations that through public competition discover the most promising young talents in the great tradition of classical music and further their careers by presenting them before distinguished juries, general audiences, the media, and the rest of the music community. Established in 1979 to honor the legacy of renowned violist William Primrose, the PIVC has established an impeccable track record of showcasing young musicians under age 29 who have achieved world class excellence. For competition laureates, placing in the final rounds of the PIVC provides an important and significant marker toward an international solo career. Embarking on a new collaboration with the Colburn School in LA, the American Viola Society’s 2018 PIVC will continue to excite the imagination and artistry of young violists around the world as they prepare to embark on an international solo career.
