We are thrilled to welcome all viola performers, educators, composers, scholars, luthiers, and admirers to Los Angeles for the American Viola Society Festival and Primrose Competition this June! The Festival will feature both established and emerging violists in concerts, competitions, masterclasses, lectures, workshops, seminars, and exhibits, just some of which includes:
Special Guest Artists: Atar Arad, David Dalton, Roland Glassl, Kazuhide Isomura, Garth Knox, Nokuthula Ngwenyama, Xidi Shen, and Lars Anders Tomter
Primrose International Viola Competition: 24 PIVC quarter-finalists in live rounds competing for over $30,000!
AVS Festival: Over 80 festival presenters performing recitals and sharing research on new and lesser-known compositions and giving workshops and masterclasses on viola technique.
AVS Orchestral Audition Seminar: Live final rounds followed by juror panel discussion. First Prize: $1,500 (sponsored by Terra Nova Violins; Second Prize: $1,000; Third Prize: BAM case.
Opportunities for Young Violists: the AVS Youth Solo Competition and Youth Ensemble Invitational
Performance opportunity for Everyone: Premiere of a viola ensemble work by Garth Knox, commissioned especially for the festival by the American Viola Society!
