Southern Africa, Part 3
Photo Journal
Khami Ruins, Great Zimbabwe Ruins, Zimbabwe
October 27 – November 3, 2004

Both ruins are UN world heritage sites.

Photos 1-3 were taken at the Khami Ruins just outside Bulawayo where these stone structures built sometime in the 15th century. Khami was the capital of the Torwa State, a state that rose to power after the fall of the Great Zimbabwe.

Photos 4-5 were taken at the Great Zimbabwe. The Great Zimbabwe is the largest ruin in sub-Saharan Africa and is quite complex. It dates from roughly the 13th – 15th centuries.
