The American Viola Society proudly announces the 2024 AVS Festival Competitions, with live final rounds and featured performances to be held at the 2024 American Viola Society Festival on June 19-22, 2024 at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, California, USA. This will mark the second time that AVS Competitions have been held concurrently with the Primrose International Viola Competition, providing a unique opportunity for students and emerging artists to experience the highest levels of viola artistry – and witness history in the making!

2024 AVS Festival Solo Competitions
The American Viola Society invites student violists under the age of 26 as of June 1, 2024 to participate in the 2022 American Viola Society Festival Solo Competitions. Following an online preliminary round, live finals will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 a the Colburn School in LosAngeles, California. Age range and prizes to given are:
Collegiate Solo Competition (for students age 19 – 25 on June 1, 2024):
First prize – $2,000
Second prize – $1,500
Third prize – $1000
Senior Solo Competition (for students age 15-18 on June 1, 2024): All prizes sponsored by Tom and Polly Tatton
First prize – $1,500
Second prize – $1000
Third prize – $500
Junior Solo Competition (for students age 14 and under on June 1, 2024)::
First prize – $1000 – Sponsored by Anderson Musical Instrument Insurance
Second prize – $750
Third prize – $500 – Sponsored by Anderson Musical Instrument Insurance
Students must be current members of the AVS to enter. All finalists receive complimentary registration for the 2024 AVS Festival.
*Finalists are responsible for their own food, housing, and travel.

2024 AVS Orchestral Audition Competition and Seminar
The American Viola Society invites pre-professional violists under the age of 29 seeking to improve their orchestral audition skills to participate in the 2024 AVS Orchestral Audition Competition and Seminar. This two-part event provides orchestral audition experience through live-round screened auditions for all semi-finalists, written feedback from orchestral violists for all participants, and a unique experience for attendees to listen behind the screen from the perspective of the judging panel. Prizes to be awarded include:
First Prize: $2,000 cash prize + a one-hour lesson with a member of the audition panel
Second Prize: $1,500 cash prize + an in-person 30-minute consultation with a member of the audition panel
Third Prize: $1,000 cash prize + an in-person 30-minute consultation with a member of the audition panel
Following an online preliminary round, up to 8 contestants will be invited to compete in live semi-final and final rounds on Wednesday June 19, 2024 at the 2024 AVS Festival. Following the live competition rounds, winners will be announced, and the judges will participate in a panel discussion about the audition process, including and audience Q & A at the end. As part of the AVS Festival, attendance to observe the seminar will require Festival registration.
Participants must be current members of the AVS to enter. All live round participants receive complimentary registration for the 2024 AVS Festival. *Live round participants are responsible for their own food, housing, and travel.

2024 AVS Viola Ensemble Invitational Competition
The American Viola Society invites student viola ensembles to participate in the 2024 AVS Viola Ensemble Invitational Competition.
Nine highly qualified youth viola ensembles (three from each division: Collegiate, Senior, and Junior) will be invited to perform in a viola ensemble showcase and mass viola ensemble premiere at the 2024 American Viola Society Festival.
Please review the entry form guidelines for each division. Students must be current members of the AVS or any IVS member society to participate.
