Violist Ames Asbell has performed in various genres around the world in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to clubs. She appears on recordings by Nonesuch, Harmonia Mundi, Naxos, Sony, and Centaur, and film scores and broadcasts include Waking Life and Austin City Limits. Recent performances include International Viola Congresses in Brazil, Thailand, Poland, and New Zealand, and recitals in Scotland, South Africa, Japan, and Mexico. She spent the early 2000s touring with rock icon David Byrne and since 2016 has performed across the US with Grammy Award-winning Conspirare in fusion oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard. Orchestral activities include Austin Opera (principal), Austin Symphony, Arizona Musicfest and Philharmonie Austin (HIP). A dynamic and passionate viola artist-teacher, she is currently Professor of Viola at Texas State University and President of the American Viola Society.
