Dr. Stephen Nordstrom is currently Associate Professor and String Area Coordinator at the University of Texas at El Paso. An active performer on both violin and viola, he has recently presented solo and chamber music recitals in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Colorado, and internationally in Lithuania, Latvia, Mexico, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, and Panama. In 2017, his album of new works for viola with composer and pianist Dominic Dousa, entitled A Musical Portrait of the American Southwest, received critical acclaim in American Record Guide and Gramophone Magazine. Nordstrom is a sought-after masterclass clinician, with recent invitations to universities in Mississippi, Nevada, and Texas, as well as abroad in Mexico and Panama. He is a frequent presenter and performer for the College Music Society, American String Teachers Association, and Texas Music Educators Association and has given recitals of new music for the American Viola Society and International Viola Congress.
