Flora Cummings is from Seattle and is a senior at the University of Washington, studying viola performance with Melia Watras and minoring in wildlife ecology. She has soloed with numerous local ensembles including the Seattle Collaborative Orchestra, UW Symphony, and Leonore Chamber Orchestra. As well as orchestral and solo music, Flora is an enthusiastic chamber music player and loves Scottish fiddle music and traditional Gaelic song—performing with her family band and Scottish highland dance studio around Seattle. In 2024 she travelled to Scotland and won the prestigious Silver Pendant singing competition for Scottish Gaelic learners at the Royal National Mòd in Oban, earning a chance to sing for broadcast on BBC television and broadcast on BBC television and live radio. Flora plays a 2017 viola by David Van Zandt and bow by Doriane Bodart.
