A Note from our Incoming President

Dear AVS Members,

Greetings! It is a joy and an honor to begin my term as President of the American Viola Society. I would first like to thank Ames Asbell for her incredible leadership, dedication, and service to the AVS during her presidency. I am so grateful that she will remain actively involved with the AVS as Past President. As I step into this role, I am filled with appreciation for our board members, our vibrant community and excitement for all that lies ahead.

Many of us are still basking in the glow of the remarkable AVS Festival at James Madison University this past June. From inspiring performances and engaging presentations to meaningful conversations and new friendships, the festival was a wonderful reminder of the creativity, generosity, and camaraderie that define our community.

While the summer months are often a quieter time in our annual cycle, the Executive Committee and Board have been hard at work behind the scenes, busy with bylaw amendments, the Viola Bank, welcoming new board members, and the relaunch of our internship program. We are fully engaged in early planning for the 2027 Primrose International Viola Competition. Together, these efforts reflect our commitment to strengthening the organization and creating meaningful opportunities for violists at every stage of their musical journey.

We look forward to sharing more news, opportunities, and events with you this fall. In the meantime, we would love to hear from you. Whether you have questions about the AVS, ideas for programs and initiatives, or suggestions for future events, please reach out to us at Info@AVSNationalOffice.org. Hearing from our members helps us better serve our community, and we welcome your thoughts and feedback.

Thank you for your continued support of the AVS. I am honored to serve this community and excited for all that we will accomplish together.

Wishing you a restful end to summer and a wonderful start to the season ahead,

Daphne Capparelli Gerling
President, American Viola Society
