Angela Rubin is an emerging artist and scholar whose performances and research unite expressive artistry with a deep commitment to community and inclusivity in classical music.
Known for her warm tone and thoughtful interpretations, she has appeared at leading festivals and institutions including the Tanglewood Music Center, Pacific Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, and the New York String Orchestra Seminar, where she served as principal violist under Jaime Laredo and performed at Carnegie Hall in the Carnegie Presents concert series.
Angela studied at the Eastman School of Music, where she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees. Her principal teachers include Masumi Per Rostad and David Harding. She has served as a Teaching Assistant in Eastman’s String Department and currently teaches viola at the Eastman Community Music School.
As a performer and researcher, Angela expands the viola repertoire through original arrangements and editions of works by underrepresented composers including Amy Beach, Clara Schumann, and Florence Price. Her work revives overlooked music and reframes it for contemporary audiences.
A dedicated advocate for community engagement, Angela has led outreach initiatives in Japan and across the U.S., performing interactive concerts that connect with young audiences. Her artistic vision is to build bridges – between performers and audiences, past and present, and across cultural divides – through the expressive power of the viola.
