The American Viola Society welcomes volunteers to support the 2026 AVS Festival at James Madison University. Festival volunteers play a vital role in the smooth operation of concerts, competitions, masterclasses, and special events, while gaining valuable behind-the-scenes experience at one of the world’s largest international viola gatherings.
Volunteering is an excellent opportunity for students and emerging professionals to engage with the global viola community while helping to offset Festival expenses.
Many volunteers are also Festival participants—including performers, competition participants, presenters, and masterclass attendees. Volunteer schedules are designed to complement, not conflict with, Festival programming, ensuring that assigned duties do not interfere with an individual’s artistic or educational participation.
All volunteers are expected to review and adhere to the Volunteer Guidelines, which outline responsibilities, expectations of professionalism, and availability requirements during the Festival.
Due to an unprecedented high number of early applicants, we have decided to close the Volunteer Form early. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Festival Coordinator Dr. Christina Ebersohl-Van Scyoc at christina.ebersohl@americanviolasociety.org.
