Zihan Zhang, born in China in 2001, is a highly promising violist currently pursuing his master’s degree at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing under the guidance of renowned Professor Shaowu Wang. He has achieved impressive success in prestigious competitions, including Third Prize at the 2025 OSAKA International Music Competition, the Best Encore Performance Award at the 2025 Tenerife International Viola Competition, First Prize in both violin and viola categories at the 2025 Korea-China International String Competition, and First Prize at the 2024 New York International Artists Competition. He also advanced to the second round of the 2023 ARD International Music Competition in Munich. Additionally, he has participated in other top-tier competitions such as the Geneva International Music Competition, Tokyo International Viola Competition, Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, and Prague Spring International Music Competition. Zihan has actively participated in international music festivals and masterclasses. In 2025, he was selected for the Nobuko Imai Viola Masterclasses at the Schiermonnikoog International Music Festival. He has also attended the Viola Academy supported by the Ono Culture Foundation and the Tamba Sasayama International Viola Masterclass, and participated in the Morningside Music Bridge program for two consecutive years. His performances have been highly praised by renowned musicians worldwide.
