Canadian violist Dr. Braunwin Sheldrick leads a vibrant career as both performer and educator, with recitals, master classes, and lectures spanning the Americas, Europe, and Oceania. She is currently Associate Professor of Viola at Baylor University. Her artistic and scholarly work centers on the discovery and performance of Latin American music for the viola, a passion she shares through multiple recordings with her duo partner, pianist Andrés Gómez Bravo.
A dedicated pedagogue, Dr. Sheldrick has presented master classes throughout Colombia and at institutions including the Eastman School of Music, the Aaron Copland School of Music, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her students have appeared at leading festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival and School, Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Summit Music Festival, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Domaine Forget, and the Colombian Youth Orchestra. They have gone on to graduate study at the Mozarteum University (Salzburg), University of Music and Performing Arts (Vienna), University of North Texas, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Longy School of Music, and Duquesne University.
From 2008 to 2025, Dr. Sheldrick served as Professor of Viola at the Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, Colombia. She has also performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, taught viola at the University of Rochester, and served as teaching assistant to George Taylor at the Eastman School of Music. A certified Paul Rolland Pedagogue, she holds degrees from McGill University (BMus) and Temple University (MM), a Postgraduate Diploma from London’s Royal Academy of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in viola performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music.
