Bass or Guitar (optional)

4 to 5 violas with optional bass and/or guitar parts. This work can be performed in many combinations: as a viola quartet, adding cello or bass, with violin instead of viola 1, or doubled on each part. "The style of perforamce should be somewhere between a Mariachi band and a Biergarten orchestra." All of the parts are mostly in rhythmic unison making this a great piece for a multi-level ensemble.

Optional cello part that doubles 4th viola. Introduces Jazz chord notation, possibility of improvisational sections.

May be played by any number of violas (6 minimum) as long as parts are evenly distributed. The parts are not techincially challenging—rarely is anything other than an open string written. The ensemble and aleatoric nature of the work is the demanding element.
