2024 AVS Festival & Primrose Competition – Register Now!

Registration is now open for the 2024 American Viola Society Festival!

Held concurrently with the live rounds of the Primrose International Viola Competition – the world’s most prestigious and longest-running viola competition – this year’s festival offers four full days of performances, lectures, workshops, masterclasses, premieres, competitions, vendors, luthiers, and more.  Don’t miss this chance to see the world’s top emerging talent in the biggest viola event of the year!

Festival highlights include:

  • Evening recitals featuring Tatjana Masurenko, Atar Arad, Steven Dann, Ayane Kozasa, and more
  • AVS Solo Competitions and Orchestral Audition Competition live final rounds featuring rising stars of the viola
  • Recitals including Sharon Wei St. John (with violinist Scott St, John), Wendy Richman, Christiana Fortune-Reader, themed programs featuring music of France, the American Southwest, and the New York scene, and more
  • Lecture-recitals include Donald Maurice‘s blend of Maori singing and poetry, and two others exploring connections to indigenous composers, Talla Rouge duo discussing their research at Dumbarton Oaks, and more
  • Workshops exploring a variety of topics, including effective practicing with Molly Gebrian and Sarah Niblack, and creativity with Peter Slowik, and others
  • AVS Emerging Artist recital and masterclass feature early-career professional artists
  • Viola ensembles include AVS Ensemble Invitational winners performing new works by Melia Watras and Michael Kimber, plus a retrospective of AVS Festival ensemble commissions.

All events will be located at the beautiful  Colburn School in downtown Los Angeles, across the street from Disney Hall. There is onsite housing available in the Colburn dorms, and several hotels a short walk away. The Colburn Café (onsite) is available for meals, and there are numerous restaurants located within a few blocks, including Grand Central Market.
